In the midst of her war against Kaecilius and his Zealots, the Ancient One encountered Doctor Strange and, despite her initial reluctance, was persuaded to accept him as her student by Karl Mordo. However, later on, she was challenged by a former student, Kaecilius, who had become corrupted by the Dark Dimension and sought to bring Dormammu to Earth. For centuries, the Ancient One protected Earth from mystical threats, and dedicated herself to helping others in need by educating them in the magical arts to give them new hope. The Ancient One was the Sorcerer Supreme as well as the leader of the Masters of the Mystic Arts.

No, it was firmly opposed to us, and beat on our mage a lot. From the description, I thought maybe it would sometimes attack other monsters, just not able to tell friend from foe. I guess one problem is we didn't focus on the golem, the toughest monster on the board. Then the ember underlays caused scarring for moving through them. Monsters were a problem, and grabbing the books and scholars meant building up a lot of fatigue fast. The encounter seemed particularly brutal, compared to my experience with Chance's quest, and the starter. I suppose you could set this up without an app, but the number of pages to cover the shrinking rooms would be immense. Figures that weren't safe were dropped onto the ember underlays below. But, at various points the rooms would burn up- we'd replace the tile with a smaller tile. Okay, so far you could do this with another game, reach the sight markers, add on more room tiles and monsters. Smoke obscured things until we reached the sight markers. We had to rescue scholars and books from a burning building. It's also tracking the treasure we find, which is very handy with the many resources we're finding.Īfter we finished up (about 2hours and 24 minutes, though some of that was double checking rules to make sure we were handling things like tests correctly) we then met up with Ronan the Wild, who I recognized as one of the heroes out of original Descent, so that was neat (and Frostgate I recalled was on the map in the original Road to Legend). And fight a boss, hopefully killing her before reinforcements arrive (and looting a chest before we kill her because I figured, like Gloomhaven, the scenario would end with her defeat). Although still targeting the closest if they can't reach their target, not too far from Gloomhaven. Cool, a little more organic than checking a quest book. So we start out, our elf is on watch, he gets to investigate and we're prompted to fill in the map. It makes parts of the game more efficient. It's a useful tool, not necessary, but gives an easy place to track initiatives, damage, conditions, it draws monster action and attack cards so I'm not having to shuffle those decks. I've played a lot of Gloomhaven, using the Gloomhaven Helper app. I was pretty sure I was going to enjoy it, but my expectations. Just one scenario, my friend and I each playing two characters.
